I finished the Neapolitan series! Such well written books. i really loved the experience of what was essentially a whole life. I wonder how much of it was based on truth.
Now i'm reading a book about Mary Magdalene. Its a fictionalised account and includes things about how she ended up working as a 'whore' (that's the word used in the book, i probably wouldn't use it myself) to her falling in love with Jesus to her tumultuous relationship with the other apostles while they try to exclude her from their new religion. Its translated from swedish. It seems to be terribly written and i'm not sure if it was originally terribly written or the translater did a terrible job. I'm half tempted to not finish it, but its told in flash back form, and i really want to find out how she ended up married to a gay man.

I just finished Maggie Nelson's The Argnonauts. It's a memoir about her relationship with her genderfluid partner, and becoming a mother and stuff. Its interesting and very short. Its quite academic in its style and i don't think i would have committed to it if it was going to be any longer, but full of interesting ideas that i probably have never though enough about.

I'm reading The Other Side of the World by Stephanie Bishop. I won a copy from the publisher so thought i'd give it a go. It won some awards. Its very melancholic. The writing is beautiful but is it enough to keep me going.

Lately, I've been reading with my kids. They read, I listen, and cope. Books are simple, about animals and with big pictures. Children don't read, but they create stories themselves, and I think that's great. And my books are lying on the shelf for now.
